A private, member-only club founded in the late 1950's as Closter Recreation, The Closter Swim Club has been providing it's members with summer fun for over 40 years. Boasting sprawling, tree-shaded lawns, a "T" pool, wading pool, clubhouse/locker room and new snack stand & grill, the facility has everything a family needs to enjoy water related activities during the summer months. The club offers a variety of activities including Red Cross swim lessons through level 6, lifeguard training, a swim and dive team and lap swimming, to name a few.

President Helen Futterknecht
Ms. Helen Futterknecht Helen has lived in Closter for 15 years and became a Pool member 9 years ago. Besides working with her husband George in his business, she works at the Girl Scout Council of Northern New Jersey in Paramus, and keeps up with her 2 daughters Hannah and Christina. Helen has been active in Girl Scouting, the PTO and other local organizations.
Vice President Mr. Steve Mufson
Mr. Steve Mufson served as the President of Closter Swim Club until last year. He had been a 45 year resident of Closter, married to Jay Mufson and father of two boys, Michael eleven and Matthew who is six. He works as a builder/developer with an office in Closter. Enjoys coaching, and supports the Closter recreation community.
Board Secretary Ms. Denise A. Lee
Ms. Denise A. Lee is a teacher in the Jersey City Public Schools and holds a MA in education. Her husband Pat, she and their two sons, Patrick and Thomas have resided in Closter for 8 years and have been pool members for 3 years. As a board member, she is willing to help out in any capacity and look forward to many more summers at the club. Her sons are both on the Swim Team and one is also on the Dive Team. Go Ducks!!!!
Board Member Ms. Louise Ungar
Ms. Louise Ungar has joined the Closter Swim Club in the mid 1970’s. She has been a member of the Board of Directors since November 2001. She currently serves as the Membership Coordinator.
Board Member Ms. Louise Terpstra
Ms. Louise Terpstra has lived in Norwood since 1990 with her husband John and has twin girls who are in college. She is a radiation therapist at Holy Name Hospital. She has been a Closter Swim Club member for 6 years.
Board Member Ms. Gloria Tait
Ms. Gloria Tait has lived in Closter since 1993 and became a pool member in 1994. She is a proud working mother of 3 girls, one which is a Life Guard in the club. Gloria started as the Secretary of the Swim Club in 2004 and presently a club member working in Public Relations and membership. Over 15 years in the legal field as a Paralegal/Legal Assistant. She has been an active, concern citizen that belongs to different organizations: Girl Scouts – Board member – Since 1996 – 2003, Troop leader 2003 to present. Bergen County Hispanic Advisory Commission, Board Member of the New Jersey Hispanic Mercantile Federation.
Board Member Dr. Tamer Avcilar
Dr. Tamer Avcilar is a faculty member at the computer science department of Baruch College and owns an IT consulting/training business. Dr. Avcilar and his family moved to Closter from Annapolis, MD three years ago and this will be his third year as a member of the club which he enjoys greatly. He is a part of the fundraising committee at the board and encourages anyone with fundraising/activity ideas and suggestions to contact him at tamer@avcilar.org
Board Member Mr. Joseph Spivack
Mr. Joseph Spivack is a credit officer at an insurance company in New York City. He and his family have lived in Closter since 2002 and joined the swim club in 2004. He is a member of the Public Relations Committee of the board.
